OTTOMAN EMPIRE HISTORY

. El imperio otomano turco era un pequeño estado multiétnico que surgió en Asia Menor en 1299 (hasta 1923). Bajo el reinado del líder Mehmed II, los turcos controlaron el resto de los estados del país. Bajo el gobierno de Osman I, la expansión otomana conquistó el Imperio Bizantino, Bulgaria y Serbia. Las victorias otomanas en los Balcanes alertaron al Este de Europa sobre su poder. En 1453, el imperio conquistó Constantinopla.

 

The Turkish Ottoman Empire was a multiethnic small Turkish state that appeared in Asia Minor in 1299 (until 1923). Under the rule of the leader Mehmed II, Turkish people controlled the rest of Turkish states. Under the rule of Osman I, the ottoman expansion conquered the Byzantine Empire, Bulgaria and Serbia. The ottoman victories in the Balkans alerted Western Europe of its power. In 1453, this empire conquered Constantinople.



En los SS. XVI-XVII, el imperio había conquistado 3 continentes, y controló el Sur de Europa, el Norte de África y Medio Oriente, con límites en Sudán, Eritrea, Arabia y Somalia en el Sur; Marruecos en el Oeste y el Mar Caspio en el Este.

 

In XVI-XVII centuries, this empire had conquered 3 continents, and it controlled Southeast European, northern of Africa and Middle East, with limits in Sudan, Eritrea, Arabia and Somalia on the South; with Morocco on the West and with Caspian Sea on the East.

 

 

El imperio otomano se convirtió en el sucesor islámico de muchos imperios antiguos clásicos. Los turcos adquirieron algunas de las tradiciones de dichos imperios y las mezclaron con las características de los religiosos y los etnios que vivían en el interior del territorio otomano, por lo que crearon una nueva identidad cultural otomana.

 

The Ottoman Empire became to be the Islamic successor of the classic ancient empires. Ottomans acquired some of the traditions of these empires and they mixed them with the features of religious and ethnic people who lived inside the ottoman territories, so they created a new cultural ottoman identity.

 

 

En el S. XIX, algunos de los territorios otomanos empezaron a alcanzar la independencia, especialmente en Europa. El imperio iba perdiendo poder a causa de algunas derrotas en guerras y por el éxito nacionalista del interior del territorio.

 

In XIX century, some of the ottoman territories started to achieve their independence, especially in Europe. The empire was loosing his power because of some defeats in wars and the nationalist success inside the territory.

 

 

Su participación en la Primera Guerra Mundial y la aparición de movimientos revolucionarios en Turquía son algunas de las razones por las que este imperio perdió completamente su poder.

Its participation in the World War One and the emergence of revolutionary movements in Turkey are some of the reasons why this Ottoman Empire completely lost his power.

 

En el S. XX, un sultán abolió el imperio otomano, concretamente el 1 de Noviembre de 1922. El califato fue abolido un año después. Se fundó la República de Turquía sustituyendo al imperio el día 23 de Octubre de 1923.

 

In XX century, a sultan abolished this empire the 1^st of November 1922. The Caliphate was abolished one year later. The Republic of Turkey was founded in its place the 23 of October 1923.

 

INTERESTING ADVICES

WHAT WOULD I DO... ?

A). If somebody near me choke...

Haría una cosa u otra dependiendo de la razón por la que la persona se esté ahogando. Si se está ahogando porque se ha atragantado y hay algo que le impide respirar bien, le diría: “¡Tose fuerte!” Pero si tose y se sigue ahogando, le daría unas palmadas en la espalda para hacerle sentirse mejor.

I will do one thing or another thing depending on the reason why someone is choking. If someone is choking because there is a stick in his throat that prohibits the breathing, I would tell him: “Cough strongly!”  If he coughs and he is still choking, I will give him some pats on his back to make him feel better.

B). If i have an ankle sprain...

Visitaría al doctor, y él me vendaría o escayolaría mi pie para inmovilizarlo. Usaría muletas para andar, me quedaría reposando en casa y no haría ningún ejercicio o actividad física que implique el uso del pie durante un tiempo, hasta que mi tobillo se recupere.

I will visit the doctor, and he will plaster or bandage my foot to immobilize it. I will use crutches to walk, I will rest at home and I won’t do any exercise or sport during a period of time, until my ankle feels better.

 

 

 

C). If i have diarrhoea...

Si tengo diarrea, debería beber bebidas con sales minerales, o bien zumo de albaricoque, y sobretodo mucha agua. También debería comer un poco de arroz blando. Si mi dolor de barriga continúa, visitaría al médico y tomar alguna pastilla o medicamento que él me recomiende.

 

If I have diarrhoea, I should drink drinks with mineral salts such as aquarius, or drink apricot juice and water. I also should eat some soft rice. If my stomach pain goes worse, I should visit the doctor and take some pills or medicaments.

 

 

 

D).  If i come across a road accident...

 

No movería del lugar ni tocaría a la persona herida, sino que llamaría a la ambulancia, porque ellos son profesionales y saben qué hacer y cómo actuar en estas situaciones. La ambulancia se llevaría a esta persona al hospital y allí sería tratada por medicos especialistas.

I shouldn’t move or touch the injured person and I will call the ambulance, because they are professionals and they know what to do and how to act in this situations. The ambulance will carry the person to the hospital and he will be treated by doctors there.

 

E). If somebody near me has a heart attack...

 

En esta situación actuaría de la misma manera que en el caso anterior. Llamaría a la ambulancia otra vez, porque tener un ataque al corazón es una cosa muy seria, por lo que es mejor que sea tratada por un médico que esté especializado en este ámbito en el hospital. Mientras que estoy con la persona perjudicada esperando a que la ambulancia llegue, lo que haría sería intentar calmar la situación y tratar de relajarlo hasta entonces.

In this situation I will call the ambulance too, because having a heart attack is a serious thing, so it is better that the person will be treated by special doctors at hospital. While I am waiting the ambulance with that person, I will try to calm down the situation and relax himself until it arrives.

 

F). How would I make a tourniquet?

 

 

Un torniquete es una banda elástica que se coloca rodeando el brazo. Lo utilizaría para comprimir una vena para detener una hemorragia o también para diferenciar una vena o vaso y extraer sangre.

 

It is a rubber band that is put around the arm, and I will use it to compress a vein to avoid an haemorrhage or to find a vein to draw blood with a needle.
 

 

TEMPUS FUGIT

La mayoría de la gente puede recordar su primer día de guardería como el día más feliz de su vida, pero yo lo recuerdo claramente como una pesadilla.  Me pregunto por qué razón lloraba aquel día, pero no tengo ni idea de mis pensamientos por aquel entonces, solo me acuerdo que estaba llorando y que no quería ir a la escuela. Ahora veo fotos mías con mis compañeros de guardería, todos disfrazados y pasándolo bien.
Me doy cuenta de que era una simple niña pequeña feliz, de que aquellos eran tiempos felices, bonitos recuerdos…

Most of people might remember their first day at kindergarden as their happiest day in their life, but I clearly remember it as a nightmare. I didn’t want to go to school, I wonder about the reason I was crying that day but I have no idea about my thoughts at that time, I just remember myself crying. I can see some photos of myself and my classmates at that time, all dressed up and having fun. I realise that I was a happy little girl, that they were happy days, great memories…

 

Luego crecí y fui al colegio durante 6 años. Allí mi mayor miedo era tener un examen de música o de religión. Todos éramos felices en aquella época, sin preocupaciones, sólo pintar, dibujar, cantar, correr, discutir sobre estuches o sacapuntas…

 

Then I grew up and went to primary school for 6 years. In that place my biggest fear was a religion or music exam. We all were happy at that time, without worries, just painting, drawing things, singing, running, arguing about suitcases or pencil sharpeners...

 

El instituto es el siguiente escalón. Cuando llegas aquí, empiezas a aprender normas básicas, tanto de asignaturas como de la vida. Conoces a personas nuevas que quizás se conviertan en verdaderos amigos en un futuro. En esta etapa también dejas atrás a antiguos amigos que se convierten en una parte de tu pasado, en un simple recuerdo.

 

Secondary school is the next step. When you go to high school, you start learning basic rules about subjects and also about life. You meet new people, maybe they will become your close friends in a near future. You also leave old friends and they become just a part of your past.

Luego tienes la oportunidad de estudiar bachillerato. Aquí es donde yo estoy ahora. Dedicas 2 años de tu vida a  prepararte antes de ir a la universidad y estudiar una carrera. En este período te vuelves más maduro y empiezas a interesarte sobre la vida, a tener conocimientos sobre en qué consiste la vida real y te preocupas sobre lo que está pasando alrededor del mundo.

 

Then you have the chance of studying bachelor’s degree. Here is where I am now. It takes two years of your life to prepare yourself before going to university and studying a degree. In this period of time you become more mature and start to have worries about life, having knowledge about what is real life and what is happening around the world.

 

 La Universidad nos espera a muchos de nosotros después del bachillerato. Aquí cursas la carrera que has querido y esperado durante tu vida académica. Esta etapa decidirá tu futura profesión y es aquí cuando te conviertes prácticamente en un adulto, con una mente madura y objetiva sobre la vida.

 

 

University waits many of us after bachelor’s degree. At university you study the degree you have wanted during your academic life and you have been waiting for ages. It will decide your future career and here you almost become an adult, with mature and objective minds.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

IN MARVELOUS COUNTRY

"Pienso a menudo sobre ello: sé que debería escribir algo (no sólo me sirve de desahogo sino para ordenar mis ideas y emociones), tengo incluso una libreta llena de "fogonazos" que me vienen, pero que nunca he llegado a desarrollar.
El caso es que no ahora mismo estoy demasiado ocupada viviendo como para pararme a escribir."

He escogido este párrafo porque me siento reflejada con lo que dice, ya que yo muchas veces pienso exactamente lo mismo, me vienen muchas ideas, recuerdos y situaciones sobre los que podría escribir pero nunca lo llego a hacer porque no encuentro el tiempo que me gustaría tener para llevarlo a cabo.

Grace es una joven mujer que parece reflexiva y sensible, si acaso un poco tímida, por eso escribe blogs inspiradores, para de esa forma abrirse al mundo. También es una mujer soñadora, ya que vive en el "país de las maravillas" imaginando vidas y mundos, por eso puede que algunas de sus historias sean inventadas. La imagen de perfil que le representaría sería esta, ya que es abstracta, como si fuera un mundo ininteligible para nosotros:

 

 

Me ha gustado mucho visitar este blog, me he llevado una imagen muy buena de la persona que está detrás de él, porque escribe cosas profundas y reflexivas que te hacen pensar y plantearte las cosas. La foto que tiene de fondo representa la vida, como si la oscuridad fuera el largo túnel que hay que atravesar a lo largo de los años para llegar al final de ella, y una vez allí te verás a ti mismo reflejado (espejo) en un mar de dudas sobre los misterios que la vida oculta.

 

Le he dejado un comentario en el el post "NOTAS" que es de donde he sacado la frase, diciéndole que me gusta lo que ha escrito y que a mí también me ha pasado lo mismo en varias ocasiones.

I have chosen this paragraph because i like the way she explains her situation and i feel exactly the same as her. I sometimes think about making up stories with my regards and ideas and this stories could be awesome, but i have never written anyone before because i don't find extra time to be inspired and write about them.

I think Grace is a young woman. She seems to be reflexive, sensible and a bit shy. Maybe that is the reason why she writes inspired stories, to be known in world by writing them on her blog. She is a dreamer girl  who lives in the " marvelous country", imagining lives and worlds. Her profile picture could be that one, because it represents he like and abstract girl:

 

 

 

I really like her blog and her stories, they are very reflexive. The background picture of the blog represents the dark tunnel that we cross during all of our life, and in the end of it, we can see reflected in a mirror all the secrets that the life occults.

I have put a coment on the post "NOTES" where i found the paragraph i have chosen to write about. I told her that i really like what she has written, because i sometimes be in same case as her.

A frozen land

  ODDA

  Odda es un municipio situado en el sur de Noruega, con una población aproximada de 7378 habitantes (2005). El paisaje de este pequeño pueblo es espectacular, con impactantes fiordos y numerosas cascadas que discurren sobre montañas nevadas. También tiene un hermoso y cristalino lago llamado Ringdal, situado enfrente del puerto.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Esta pequeña  región tiene 3 zonas que son de gran interés turístico. Son las siguientes:


- La doble cascada Låtefoss, situada al sur del valle de Odda. Es uno de los paisajes más bonitos que tiene. El agua que surca el valle de Odda va a desembocar al fiordo Hardanger, no sin antes pasar por el lago Sandvevatnet, donde contribuye a reflejar una de las lenguas del espectacular glaciar de Folgefonna.

 

- Trolltunga (lengua de troll) es una plataforma rocosa que se asoma al abismo, a unos 1100 snm. Sirve como balcón, haciendo disfrutar de una magnífica vista, donde puedes relajarte observando el paisaje y los fiordos noruegos. Se sitúa en el pueblo de Skjeggedal, a 50 kilómetros de Odda. Se puede visitar en verano, cuando apenas hay nieve y el tiempo es cálido, de manera que puedes escalar sin ningún problema hasta la piedra. Si alguna vez vas de viaje a Odda, es aconsejable que visites Trolltunga, porque es un lugar que merece la pena.

 

- RØldal, municipio situado en el condado de Hordarland. Se encuentra a 45 minutos de Odda en coche. Está en las montañas, a unos 380 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Es un lugar realmente pequeño, con tan solo 400 personas viviendo allí. Algunos lugares interesantes para visitar son:

-        El museo de RØldal: es una alquería que muestra los edificios y la equitación típica de una granja de este pueblo. También se puede observar varias herramientas, utensilios y ropa típica de allí.

 

-        La iglesia del bastón: es una de las 30 iglesias católicas que quedan en Noruega, construida desde el año 1275. Ha sido reparada a lo largo de los siglos y todavía es usada por los habitantes de allí. Su crucifijo todavía cuelga en este bonito lugar.

Odda is a municipality situated in the South of Norway. It has a population of 7378 (2005 estimate). The landscape of this village is amazing, with striking fjords and wonderful waterfalls going down trough the snow-cappeds. It also has a beautiful and clear lake, called Ringdal, situated in front of the harbour.

 

 

Talking about interesting places, we can find three of them in this small village:

 

• It has got a famous waterfall called Låtefoss situated in the South valley of Odda. The water of this waterfall goes past the  Sandvevatnet lake and ends in the Hardanger Fjord, making the exotic Folgefonna glacier tongue.

•  Trolltunga (that means ‘ a tongue of a troll’) . Is a place situated in Skjeggedal village, 50 km away from Odda. You can visit this place in summer, when there is no snow and the weather is warm for climbing. It is 1100 metres above the sea level and it is a rocky platform that over-hangs into the abyss. It acts like a balcony, where you can relax and enjoy yourself staring at the amazing landscape and Norwegian fjords. If you go to Odda, you have to visit that place, worth it.

 

•  RØldal, which is a former municipality situated in Hordarland county. It is about 45 minutes away from Odda by car. It is in the mountains, about 380 metres above the sea level. It is a really small place with only about 400 people living there.

  

 

 

              It has some interesting places:

 

-        RØldal village museum: is a farmstead showing buildings and equipment typical for a Roldal farm. You can also see various tools, utensils and traditional costumes there.

 

 

-        RØldal stave church: is one of about 30 catholic churchs remaining in Norway, and is dated back to around 1275. It has been extended and repaired troughout the centuries. It is still in common use, and the crucifix is still hanging in this beautiful place.
